Thailand Trip
Thailand is a beautiful place, I must say and you will not regret visiting the place. Of late have heard of some political unrest which you can get advice from the Indian embassy website before you travel.
We covered Bangkok and Phuket (4 nights in Bangkok + 4 nights in Phuket). 4 days was really lavish for us in Bangkok and it was great because there was no hurry burry. We were at ease to see the places. Coz some of the places we visited for example the tiger temple- takes one whole day. We didn't go on package tour, we booked through expedia- hotel and got a decent deal. I would suggest you go on your own. You really do not need a package tour guidance, coz tourism is so well promoted there (their main economy is tourism), it is very structured and organized and they are very helpful.
We had visited in 24th July, 2011. We had gone from Trivandrum to Bangkok via mumbai through Air India. We stayed in Ramda Hotel (it is nearer to the shopping malls and markets). It cost us around 400 dollars for 4 nights stay. You can check in their website - www.ramada-bkk.com for further details. Our flight from TVM to Bangkok & back cost us around 1250 dollars (cheapest of the flights our Air India but was surprised by the hospitality).
There are tourists guides at each and every nook and corner and they can take you to places. Make sure you have an English speaking tour guide with you (most of the cases they have, but good to double check). We did not take package tours, coz they are so “by the clock” kind of trips and we need to tune to their schedules. The Reclining Buddha temple, Grand palace, Tiger temple, floating market, Bridge over the river Kwai, Siam Niramit show (If you like dance, music- you will love this). Places like floating market and tiger temple- easily takes one whole day each and are quite tiring- but I must they should not be missed.:You can reserve one day for shopping, its so cheap and you can bargain and get good deals. Clothes are cheaper than Kerala as well. You will find numerous places for massage starting from head to leg which is highly recommended and is relaxing.
We had taken a flight to reach Phuket on the 28th July, 2011 to reach Phuket. It costs us around 800 dollars. We stayed in one Pacific resort(http://www.pacific-club- phuket.com) (You may get other places may slightly cheaper- but this was really good ! esp their spa and massage was rocking ! ) which is a calm place and 4 nights cost us around 250 dollars, we had 3 full days for Phuket, which is basically an islands and seas - many of the Hollywood films are shot over there. Make sure u eat “pineapple fried rice” its yummy !!The tourists spots are crowded, but I loved the feel of the place- it was not like a hi fi beach place, instead had its traditional feel to it. Please do not miss Phuket- believe me- you won't regret it !! The color of the water there is mesmerizing ! its sea green color, I have never seen that colour anywhere and its so so clean ! make sure to go snorkeling!
You will get visa on arrival and do not need any reference, carry Passport size photos and some money in Thai baht for processing visa (its not a big deal since you can take photos as well as exchange money there). Though the process is pretty straightforward , just that the wait time was long.
Hope this helps, since We have not visited northern thailand- can't comment on that part much ..Hope u make the right choices – but to choose Thailand to visit is absolutely a great choice and please note that ours was a 2 people journey !
